Christmas Chapter Books

Horrible Harry and the Christmas Surprise

It’s Christmastime, but with Miss Mackle in the hospital, no one feels much like celebrating. Maybe Harry can think of a way to cheer up Miss Mackle and put the holiday spirit back in Room 2B.

If you’ve been reading this blog for any period of time, you know about my friendship with Horrible Harry.  I love Horrible Harry and the Christmas Surprise because it shows a softer side of Harry.

Horrible Harry and the Holidaze

The holiday season is here, and the kids in Room 3B are learning about all the different ways people celebrate. In addition to Christmas and Hanukkah, there’s Kwanzaa, Three Kings’ Day, Korean New Year, and more. All the talk about holidays has everyone feeling festive. Everyone, that is, except Harry. He doesn’t seem to care about the holidays, the class pet, or even the new student in class. It’s clear that something is bugging Harry, but what could it be?

I love that this book briefly touches upon other holiday celebrations. This would be a great choice when learning about holidays and traditions from around the world.

Jingle Bells, Batman Smells (P.S. So Does May)

It’s holiday time, and Room One is doing lots of fun things to celebrate. Like making elf costumes! And singing joyful songs! Only, how can Junie B. enjoy the festivities when Tattletale May keeps ruining her holiday glee? And here is the worst part of all! When everyone picks names for Secret Santa, Junie B. gets stuck with Tattletale you-know-who! It’s enough to fizzle your holiday spirit! Hmm…or is it? Maybe, just maybe, a Secret Santa gift is the perfect opportunity to give May exactly what she deserves.

I love reading this book with my students who need a gentle reminder about kindness for all!

Ready, Freddy! A Very Crazy Christmas

Merry Christmas, Freddy! Freddy’s cousins, twin sisters Kasey and Kelly, are coming for the holidays. Things are always more fun when the twins are around – but they’re also a lot more crazy! Freddy can’t wait to find out what trouble the girls get into this time.

Holidays are about spending time with family and kids just love the mischievous adventures when Freddy’s cousins come to town!

Ready, Freddy! The Perfect Present

Freddy can’t wait for all the toys, toys, toys he put on Christmas list! He’s sure Santa will bring him everything he’s wishing for. But when Freddy learns not every kid is as lucky as he is, he starts to wonder. Could giving presents be as much fun as getting them?

Ready, Freddy! Secret Santa Surprise

It’s almost Christmas, and Freddy is thrilled when his teacher tells the class that they’ll be doing a Secret Santa gift swap. He can’t wait to make a special present for one of his friends — until Freddy picks the worst name in the class! Freddy can’t believe it, but maybe with some help from his friends he can be the best Secret Santa ever!
This one is usually only available in Kindle format through Amazon. Keep an eye on the Scholastic book club flyers and grab it when you see it there!

Flat Stanley: Stanley’s Christmas Adventure

Santa Claus is not his usual, jolly self. In fact, he’s in a terrible mood. He doesn’t believe that children appreciate Christmas anymore. This  year, he has decided that he is not going to deliver any Christmas presents! Luckily, his daughter, Sarah Claus, knows who to call for help. The Lambchop family! But can they convince Santa that there are still good children in the world? Just leave it up to Stanley.

I usually introduce my students to Flat Stanley when we begin writing to our pen pals. After that my students flock to the Flat Stanley tub in my classroom library. I keep this book close so I can read it aloud before the holidays.
