Coding Capers: Luci and the Missing Robot

This story follows Luci, a girl who loves her computer science class. One day at school, Mrs. Lansing announces a new assignment. The students must locate a missing robot in the school and reprogram it. The winning team will receive their own robot.

Along the way, Luci and her friends receive clues. The answer to each clue uses coding terminology that Mrs. Lansing has taught in class.

These riddles take the groups throughout the school.

Finally, Luci’s team finds the robot, which is out of control!

I love that this book shows teamwork and perseverance. The students had to work together, and reprogramming the robot took many tries before the kids got it right.

Another great feature of this book is that it shows how helpful technology can be when used correctly.

Overall, this book has a winning combination of mystery and STEM elements that your students will love! This would be a great way to introduce or review coding terminology with your students, too.

I have also added two coding activities. Students will start at school and follow the code at the bottom of the page to help Luci get home. There is also an option for students to code their own path while avoiding cars and buses on the road.
