The Littlest Leprechaun

The Littlest Leprechaun by Brandi Dougherty is a sweet story to read around St. Patrick’s Day. Liam is the littlest leprechaun in the Enchanted Forest. He wants to have an important job in the village like everyone else. After trying out several different jobs, he finds he is too little to measure, too little to run, and too little to lift and carry important treasure. But in the end, Liam learns that he isn’t too little to make a friend. Here are a few activities you can use with The Littlest Leprechaun in your classroom.

The Littlest Leprechaun Comprehension and Vocabulary Activities

While reading the story, these comprehension cards can help guide student discussion. Students can also respond to these questions in a writing journal.

In this story, Liam wants to try different jobs in his village, but he discovers he is still too little to complete these jobs successfully. Students can keep track of the different jobs Liam tries as well as what happened while he was on the job.

Once students have finished the story, they can practice summarizing with this graphic organizer. There is also a Beginning-Middle-End option included.

I selected six words from this story and created vocabulary and definition cards. These cards can be printed out to be put on display, used in a vocabulary matching game, or glued into student journals.
