Math Dice Games

Kids love to play dice games, but some teachers shy away from them due to management issues and lack of time. When you combine dice games your students can play independently AND practice math skills at the same time, it’s a win-win situation for the classroom. I want to share my favorite math dice games that your students can play in the classroom or from home.

Printable Math Dice Games

In the classroom, these dice games can be used during math workshop, math rotations, or center time. Once you introduce the dice games, students can play them independently so you can work with a small group.

Many of the games come with multiple versions so you can differentiate within the classroom.

Once taught, kids can play these math dice games independently and practice key math skills. Many games have options for differentiation, too. Add these math activities to your centers, math rotations, or fast finishers bin.

By placing the pages inside dry erase pockets or sheet protectors, students can play these games over and over again with different results. This will help keep your copy numbers down. As a bonus, most of my games include sample pages. Place these behind the game pages so students can refer to them without interrupting your small group time.

Here are links to my favorite dice and dry erase pockets. I have had good luck finding dry erase pockets in the Target Dollar Spot. You can also buy a large box of sheet protectors. These are a great alternative to the pockets.

Digital Math Dice Games

Because many schools are continuing with remote learning and/or social distancing this fall, I wanted to include digital options that would be useful for teachers and students. In addition to the printable packs, my dice games include two different links for Google Slides.

Google Slides with Dice

This option uses a script program to animate the dice directly on the pages within Google Slides. I have included more information in the resource about how to grant permission for this script to run within Google Slides. Once the script is running, students select Dice > Roll Dice from the menu to animate the dice.

For middle and upper elementary, I also have a set of Division Dice Games.

Google Slides without Dice

If your school does not allow you to run the script within Google Classroom, don’t worry. The dice games are still available as a digital option, but you will need to provide physical dice or another website in order for students to play the games.

These digital math dice games allow your students to play in the classroom or at home in Google Slides. Students can practice addition, subtraction, place value, and more in a fun and engaging way!
