The start of the school year often brings a wide variety of emotions. There is excitement about new possibilities mixed with some nerves about the unknown. You can help ease some of those fears by sharing the book, A Letter From Your Teacher on the First Day of School. I have created a free letter and envelope craft to pair with this book.

About the Book
Written by: Shannon Olsen
Illustrated by: Sandie Sonke

From the author and illustrator of Our Class is a Family, this heartwarming picture book helps teachers in welcoming their new group of students on the first day of school. Through a letter written from the teacher’s point of view, students are given the message that their new teacher is someone they will get to form a special bond with. Their teacher is not only there to help them academically, but also to cheer them on, and to provide a caring, safe environment for them to learn and grow.
During back to school time, teachers are wanting to set the tone for the new year. In addition to establishing rules and procedures, they are ready to get to know their kids and start building positive relationships. This is a read aloud that helps with laying that foundation, and it serves as a great starting point for get-to-know-you activities and class community building.
If you don’t already have a copy of A Letter From Your Teacher on the First Day of School in your classroom or school library, you can find it on Amazon. This resource would also work well with A Letter From Your Teacher on the Last Day of School.

Dear Teacher Letter and Envelope Craft
After reading the story, your students can write a letter to YOU. In that note, students can write about their hopes and dreams for the new school year, ask a question, share an interesting fact about themselves, or explain what they enjoy about school. Or, let students lead the way with writing from their hearts.

You could also write a personal note to each student. Simply place the completed notes on their desks for a first day of school surprise!

I am trying to click on the ‘A Letter from your Teacher’ freebie and it is not working.
Hi Steven,
I just double checked the post and everything appears to be working on my end. Have you entered your name and email into the form to get the freebie? Or is that the button you’re trying to click that isn’t working?

I am trying to get the freebie (a letter from your teacher) and it is not working. I have subscribed twice and still no luck.
According to my email provider, an email was sent earlier today. Did you check your spam/junk/promotions folders?
